Back Pain Treatment

Back Pain Treatment

Back pain can affect how you sit, stand, walk, sleep, and carry out everyday activities. A dull ache after a long day at work, stiffness when getting out of bed, or sharp discomfort while bending may indicate an issue involving the muscles, joints, discs, or other structures of the spine. At Goodwill Physiotherapy, we address different types of back pain through physiotherapy care based on the symptoms, movement limitations, and physical demands of each individual.

Conditions We Treat With Back Pain Treatment

Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain affects the lumbar region and may develop after lifting heavy objects, sitting for extended periods, sudden movements, or repetitive physical activity. Symptoms can include stiffness, muscle soreness, and difficulty bending or standing for long periods. Back pain treatment can include movement assessments, therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, and advice on posture and daily activities.

Upper Back Pain

Upper back pain occurs around the thoracic spine, between the shoulder blades and below the neck. Poor posture, prolonged desk work, muscle strain, and repetitive movements may contribute to discomfort in this area. Physiotherapy can address restricted movement, muscle tension, and postural habits that place additional stress on the upper back.

Middle Back Pain

Pain in the middle back may arise from strained muscles, joint irritation, or limited mobility in the thoracic spine. Some people notice discomfort when twisting, reaching, or maintaining one position for too long. Assessment helps identify the movements that aggravate symptoms and determine which exercises and physical therapy approaches may be appropriate.

How Physiotherapy Can Help With Back Pain?

At Goodwill Physiotherapy, care may begin with a discussion of symptoms, previous injuries, daily activities, and movements that cause discomfort. A physical assessment can help evaluate spinal mobility, muscle strength, flexibility, posture, and relevant nerve symptoms.

Depending on the findings, a physiotherapy programme may include:

The appropriate approach depends on the cause and severity of symptoms. Not every type of back pain requires the same treatment, and some conditions need medical assessment before physiotherapy begins.

When Should You Seek Medical Attention?

Seek urgent medical care if back pain occurs with new loss of bladder or bowel control, difficulty passing urine, numbness around the groin or saddle area, or rapidly progressing leg weakness. Back pain accompanied by fever, major trauma, unexplained weight loss, or a history of cancer also warrants prompt medical assessment.
